Keeping Your Cards Safe While You Travel

Identity theft has become a mainstream crime. It happens thousands of times of day and is the primary reasons Kelly Community and so many other financial institutions are so iron-clad about fraud detection on debit and credit cards.

As members ourselves, we understand the frustrations of having purchases declined because of suspected fraud, but there are ways to prevent that – especially while traveling this summer.

Travel Notifications

First and foremost, it is imperative that you notify us of your travel plans if you expect to use your Kelly Community debit and/or credit cards while on vacation. We will set your card to work instead of flagging your purchases as fraud. Set travel notifications in the Card Control app, by calling us or in person at any Kelly Community location.

Use Your Card Control App

Card Control lets you turn your card on and off as needed. If you misplace your card, turn it off immediately until you find it. If you don’t find it, you can rest easy knowing nobody used it to make unauthorized purchases. You can also set real-time alerts in Card Control to inform you when your debit and credit cards have been used. That’s another way of preventing theft.

Load Your Cards to a Mobile Wallet

Mobile wallets are one of the safest ways to pay with your debit and credit cards, because they don’t share your card numbers with any retailers, payment apps or payment terminals. Instead, mobile wallets send a random set of characters called a token. Even if the retailer, app or payment terminal gets compromised, your card number does not. Mobile wallets like Google and Apple work faster than a credit or debit card, and when you pay with them, you keep your cards in your wallet or even at home.

For added security, set up biometrics, strong passcodes and remote-wipe features on your phone in case you lose it.

Wherever your vacation takes you this summer, we wish you safe travels and safe spending.
